Song of the Day: It Ain't Gonna Save Me
For some reason I always start thinking about Jay Reatard every October. I think it's because the one time I saw him play was a perfect October night at Glasslands during CMJ. He played a blistering 15-minute set and then stormed out of the venue and walked around the corner. There's no place like October in New York City.
I'm attracted to artists that never compromise. Jay grew up with nothing and he had nothing to lose, so he never compromised ever. I think that sticking to your guns is the most inspiring trait in an artist. That's why we named a guitar strap after him. Makes me want to get out there and make some more music.
