Shelby Bottoms

This piece is a part of our 2015 Nashville Trail Map. Check out all the points on the trail and download our hand-illustrated map here.

Every city needs a green space to retreat to when the doldrums of life bring you down, and as much light that Nashville shines, sometimes a minor escape is necessary. That’s why we’ve chosen East Nashville’s very own Shelby Bottoms Greenway as a pitstop on our trail. The 960-acre park houses a nature center, bike trails along the infamous Cumberland River, walking or running paths throughout hardwood forests, meadows and wetlands, as well as educational retreats for those interested in learning! Aside from the lengthy trails, the park offers a variety of sports-related recreation for the enthusiasts, including a golf course, disc-golf area, baseball and soccer fields, as well as a decent pond for duck-wrangling (totally a sport). Spending an afternoon at Shelby will take you outside the city without having to travel far at all, you might even spot Mick Jagger walking his dogs.
