DIY Nashville: New Year's Eve 2017 Photo Essay by Emily Quirk

Original Fuzz contributor Emily Quirk went to a New Year's Eve house show in South Nashville to celebrate the death of 2016. Here's what she saw.

With barely a week until the dawn of New Year's Eve, no event seemed worthwhile to rightfully bury 2016 into the past, until Jacob Corenflos, local musician most often seen crowdsurfing his way across Nashville, took the matter into his own hands. Jacob threw together a much needed last-minute DIY punk show in his South Nashville basement to ring in the new year. The bill was stacked seven bands deep, including a solo set by Kelton Young of DreamWave and full sets by Waxed, Choovanski, Casting Couch, Spodee Boy, Argus, and Date Night.

As the midnight band rang in 2017, Corenflos' basement was packed with a full-on mosh pit underneath champagne showers. The young bloods of Nashville's local music scene have been hungry for any chance of a show since the recent shutdown of DIY spaces following the Oakland fire. However, the spirit of our community carried on amidst closings, proving you can shut down the venues, but you can't shut down the music.

Check out what went down at the NYE's show below. All photos by Emily Quirk.
