Goodbye Earl Scruggs

Goodbye Earl Scruggs. For someone like me, born in 1983, your sound is what a banjo sounds like. There's no other way to play it.

From growing up hearing Dad walk around the house butchering your version of "Cripple Creek", to hearing that "high and lonesome" sound you developed with Bill Monroe deployed to sublime effect by The Sidemen at The Station Inn in Nashville, I've never known bluegrass without you.

Your influence on music makes me think of those stories you hear about 2-year-olds knowing how to use an iPhone. You're the phone and I'm the kid that will never know a world without touchscreen computers.
